Nursing Student’s Death: Suspect’s Alleged Confession Video Ignites Public Outrage
A video making the rounds on social media has thrown a spotlight on the suspected killing of Wendy Achumba, a student of the College of Nursing in Obowo, after a man alleged to be behind her death reportedly broke down and confessed on camera.
The suspect, named as Onyema Okonkwo, did not fall into the hands of law enforcement through conventional means. Instead, it was the community that moved first. Youths from Umuadara, Umulogho in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State tracked him down themselves, driven by a groundswell of suspicion and rising anger over the young woman’s fate.
Leading the charge was youth leader Chidiebere Iweajunwa, who reportedly rallied and coordinated the effort that ultimately resulted in Okonkwo’s capture.
What followed has since set the internet ablaze. In footage that spread rapidly across platforms, the suspect is seen recounting the events surrounding Achumba’s death, alleging that he was not alone — naming a second individual, Emmanuel, as someone who accompanied him to the victim’s home the night of the incident.
The clip has drawn fierce reactions from Nigerians online, many calling for swift justice while others raise questions about the circumstances of the arrest and the handling of the case going forward.
