A North Carolina court has ordered a social media influencer to pay $1.75 million in damages after a lawsuit accused her of having an affair that destroyed another woman’s marriage.
Brenay Kennard, a popular TikTok and Instagram personality with 2.9 million followers on TikTok and more than 240,000 on Instagram, was sued by Akira Montague earlier in May 2024.
Akira filed an “alienation of affection” lawsuit—a rare civil claim recognized in only six U.S. states, including North Carolina. The suit alleges that Kennard played a direct role in breaking up her marriage to Timothy Montague, who is now married to Kennard.

The statute allows a spouse to seek compensation from a third party accused of intentionally interfering in a marriage.
Court filings state that Kennard “engaged in behavior designed to seduce” Timothy and openly displayed their affair both online and in person. The lawsuit further claims she began the relationship while Timothy was still married and even posted photos of Akira’s children without consent.
