Visually impaired group protest in Enugu, demands justice for Nnamdi Kanu

A group of visually impaired Nigerians on Monday staged a peaceful protest in Enugu State, demanding the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Peaceful Demonstration in Enugu

The demonstrators, led by their coordinators, marched through several major streets of Enugu while chanting solidarity songs and holding placards calling for justice. Despite their condition, they maintained a calm and orderly protest, urging the federal government to respect the rule of law and human rights.

Their Message to the Government

The group appealed directly to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the federal authorities, describing Kanu’s prolonged detention as an injustice and a violation of human rights. They insisted that the IPOB leader should be released without conditions, emphasizing that continued detention only deepens division and tension in the region.

Reactions from the Public

The protest has generated mixed reactions across social media. While many Nigerians commended the courage of the visually impaired protesters, others expressed strong disagreement with their stance.

One commenter wrote, “I understand their pain, but they should also remember the destruction IPOB’s activities caused in the East.” Another user countered, saying, “These are people the government should be caring for, not ignoring. Their message deserves attention.”

The demonstration has once again reignited the national conversation around Nnamdi Kanu’s trial and prolonged detention, with renewed calls for dialogue, justice, and peace in the Southeast region.
