Gospel singer and worship leader Nathaniel Bassey has penned an emotional tribute to the late evangelist Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, honoring him as a spiritual mentor whose life and teachings deeply shaped his faith journey.
In a touching Instagram post, the “Imela” hitmaker reflected on the profound impact Dr. Ukpai had on his ministry, describing him as a man whose unwavering commitment to prayer and fasting left an indelible mark on his own spiritual discipline.
“Sometimes you wish some people would never die,” Bassey mourns
Bassey shared that he had recently led a session of evening fasting — a spiritual exercise directly inspired by Dr. Ukpai’s example.
He wrote:
“Oh! Dr. Uma! Sometimes you wish some people would never die. Just a few days ago, I was inspired to lead multitudes in an evening fast — something I learnt from you and even mentioned so.”
The gospel minister praised the late evangelist for living a life of impact and devotion, noting that his legacy will continue to inspire generations of believers.
