Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, Speaks Out After Arrest — “I’m Safe But Still in Custody”
Nnamdi Kanu’s lead counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, has finally broken his silence following his arrest during the recent #FreeNnamdiKanu protest in Abuja.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, the outspoken human rights lawyer confirmed that he remains in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre, while assuring supporters of his safety.
“I am safe and sound but still under custody at Kuje prison. The Magistrate refused to listen to our submissions. He insisted on remanding us till Friday and got his way,” he wrote.
Ejimakor expressed disappointment over how his case was handled, suggesting that the decision to remand him was influenced by external pressure rather than the rule of law.
He further urged supporters to remain calm and steadfast, emphasizing that justice will eventually prevail for both himself and the detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The lawyer’s arrest has sparked nationwide outrage, with activists and sympathizers accusing authorities of using intimidation tactics against voices calling for Kanu’s release.
Background:
Aloy Ejimakor was reportedly taken into custody during a peaceful demonstration organized to demand the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in prolonged detention despite several court rulings in his favor.
As of press time, Ejimakor’s legal team continues to push for his release, while calls for transparency in the judicial process continue to grow louder across the country.
